Whats the best way to get from the airport to my hotel??
I had so much information about Airport Transportation that I had to create this full article to talk about all the details. If this is your first time in PV you do not want to miss this Travel Tip.
This is one of the most common questions and I really hope that this Travel tip will give you all the answers that you need.
Where do I start... lets start with the first thing that you will find after you pickup your luggage and go through customs... the TS Sharks (also knows as timeshare reps) the first thing that I want you to be aware is that the TS reps that are in the airport are one of the most agressive people and that is the reason why the hotels send them to the airport, they will use all of their tricks, charm, etc. to get your attention, they will give you a drink, a towel, a map, they will tell you they can give you a ride to your hotel totally FREE but the only thing that each and one of them want is to invite you to a timeshare presentation but be careful because they dont use these words they say "membership breakfast", "hotel tour", "just breakfast" and they will say that its only "90 minutes" but we know that is another lie as well, its very important that all of your family goes including your children and of course dont forget your credit card 😂 why do you need a CC (credit card) if its just a breakfast?... anyways we are not here to talk about TS and all of their tricks, just wanted to give you some examples of what they will tell you and how to identify their true intentions. If you are interested in purchasing TS then accept their free ride to your hotel and play their game, but if you are not interested in any of their BS I recommend that you dont make any type of eye contact with them and just walk straight until you pass this "shark tank". The positive thing is that a friend recently arrived from Canada and she mentioned that they were not "in her face" like they normally were so I dont know if maybe they told them to not approach the people and just stay at a certain distance like the TS reps in the streets where you have to go to their booth, they cannot approach you, thats why they normally are trying to give you a map or start some kind of conversation for you to go to their booth. Whatever the reason I am sure that a lot of people will appreciate if they are not in their faces anymore. Anyways back to subject... the best way will totally depend on you, your budget and comfort. All of these options are valid.
✔️Airport Taxis (white) - Why are they so expensive? the answer is simple, they have a special "permit" to be inside of the airport and not only that each ride that they take out they have to pay a "fee". So that is why they are more expensive. I recommend this service ONLY if you are bringing a lot of luggage or carrying a lot of stuff, its the most practical way to go. In this next link you can find the most updated rates by zones, use them and dont let them try to overcharge you (some people will try to) helpful rate chart and map from PV Angels http://pvangels.com/news/5472/taxi-zones-and-updated-fares-from-the-vallarta-nayarit-airport-pvr
✔️Regular Taxis (yellow) - These are the regular cabs that you are going to find around PV and because they dont require to get a "special permit" or "airport fees for each ride" their rates are way less expensive than the white taxis. If you are not carrying a lot of luggage, will like to save some $$$ and you dont mind walking a little to cross the bridge and catch one on the other side, this will be your best option. (see in the picture above where you will find them *white heart*)
✔️UBER - A lot of people are using this option because its cheap and its at the palm of their hands, just like the yellow taxis you will have to grab your luggage, cross the bridge and catch your Uber on the other side. They dont have permit to pick you up closer than that.
✔️Bus (public transportation) - Very few people use this option, mostly people that had been here several times and they know its supercheap, convenient and if they are not carrying a lot of luggage with them. There are 2 stops one right outside the airport (left red square in image above) which is the bus that takes you to the Puerto Vallarta Hotels and if you are staying in the Riviera Nayarit all you have to do is cross the bridge and get the Bus on the other side (right red square in image above). Depending on where you are going the buses can be from $7.50 pesos ($0.42 US cents) to $50 pesos ($3 USD) per person.
I will like to share the following story so you can compare the prices you can get in the airport and outside the airport... some friends arrived last year and since they didnt have any transportation prearranged they charged them $25USD they were only 2 people the service was in a white taxi from the airport to go to a hotel in Nuevo Vallarta (near the mall). This year I told them that I will set them up with an Uber friend to take them to that same hotel in Nuevo Vallarta and he only charged them $150pesos (around $8USD) for the same 2 people. As you can see the difference was $17USD it may not be much for some people but sometimes people are in a budget so each penny counts. I normally only provide Group Airport Transportation but since they are good friends I prearranged this for them.
✈️RETURN TRANSPORTATION (from Hotel to Airport) - Because of Taxi Union Regulations supposedly the only way that you could return to the airport was through a taxi, the truth is that the permit to "pick up people from the hotels" are expensive so at the end of the day a lot of transportation companies just decided that they will not offer the return, so they dont have to charge their clients "crazy rates for the return" however I am aware of a transportation company that does provide the service so in case you are interested you are more than welcome to send me an email and I will share you their information. In the Puerto Vallarta area depending on the hotel UBER will also be a good option for the return. If you are staying in the Riviera Nayarit (Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, Sayulita, Punta de Mita, etc.) there is no UBER service in that area.
✈️VEHICLES WITH WHEELCHAIR RAMP - When it comes to wheelchairs if they are foldable they are able to fit in any type of vehicle, however if you are coming with an electric wheelchair I am aware of a transportation company that does have this type of vehicle so in case you are interested you are more than welcome to send me an email and I will share you their information.
